EMIKO IN OBURISODE
6x12", Alkyd on stretched canvas
It doesn't matter if the subject is a fantasy animal, the artist
should always pay attention to detail. I've done quite a bit
of research regarding the Japanese 'Kimono', and Emiko is wearing
an authentic creation in that mode - the Oburisode, usually worn
by young unmarried women, with long flapping sleeves to attract
a lover's attention. So forgive me if she seems a little coquettish.
Two details: Emiko is named for a character in the Japanese 1954
film, 'Gojira' - Godzilla to Westerners; and the Major Mitchell
Cockatoos (birds) decorating the 'kimono proper' are native Australian
Birds.
